New Aerospace Technology

Klinger UK has introduced the new OGP SmartScope MVP400 machine to the Aerospace Test Laboratory and Cutting Centre
at its Bradford base. The machine will be used to measure critical gasket dimensions and compile vital metrology reports
for a number of high profile aerospace clients.

This new technology allows for precision measurement to within 3µm. Klinger and OGP are working together to prove
statistically that 100% measurement on products is not required, saving valuable time and money.

The investment in precision metrology such as the new SmartScope MVP400 machine and the CNC knife cutting machine,
keeps Klinger UK at the forefront of sealing manufacture worldwide. John Holdsworth, Klinger’s QA Representative for
Aerospace said: “We had already secured high profile aerospace customers but it was clear that if we wanted to maintain
or increase business levels, it would entail bringing the design and manufacturing in-house in order to offer greater control
over product quality and delivery.”

Klinger’s aerospace gaskets are manufactured from proprietary compressed fibre sheeting, which is typically a range of
asbestos-free, calendered sealing materials based around a number of different fibres and rubber binders.
These materials are inherently flexible therefore only a non-contact method is suitable for measuring purposes, such as
the technology Klinger has invested in.

Alan Bates, Managing Director of Klinger said: “We are excited to be working alongside OGP to produce the highest quality
products we can. By pushing boundaries we achieved the coveted ASCS accreditation to supply the aerospace industry.
The BS EN 9100:2003 certificate shows our commitment to the Industry.”
